DOT Compliance and Journey Management for Fleet Safety
Motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of fatalities for oil and gas extraction workers in the United States. Safety and responsible operations within Oil and Gas (O&G) Exploration and Production (E&P) operations is a growing concern as oil production increases to keep up with demand and the pursuit of self reliance.
Advancements in drilling for unconventional reserves locked in shale-based formations have greatly changed the upstream oil and gas industry in North America into a long-term, viable source of hydrocarbons. One of the biggest challenges in developing and operating the upstream O&G industry is the safe operation of the large numbers of vehicles – both light and heavy.
While the exposure to land transportation incidents is not limited to onshore operations, the extent and frequency of the exposure is much greater than offshore. Road safety and efficient management of land transportation activities affect all organizations to the extent where the potential risks and ethical and legal obligations cannot be ignored. To protect staff and assets, more companies are looking to reduce the risk of incidents, crashes and non-compliances by pursuing a total culture focused on commitment to safety and accountability by supporting responsible behaviours and ensuring efficient and effective operations.
